Megan Ham
Intern

Age:  23. I have been a christian 5 (and a half) years

Education:  UW, B.S. Bioengineering

Occupation:  I work for the Seattle Church of Christ as an intern for the teen and campus ministries

Area of Teen Work you lead: I work with teens in all grades of high school (9 through 12)

Why did you choose to serve God and his church in the teen work?
When I first became a christian I had not even been to a college class and had just barely turned 18. There was always a part of me that identified with the teens of the church. When I began interning in the summers and was given a chance to get more involved with the teens I saw what an amazing spirit and background that each of them have. I have been working with the teens for the better part of 2 years. I am grateful for the chance to see young women grow, learn to make decisions, and be given a chance to know God that I did not have when I was their age. They also are great at keeping me young and always able to have fun.

Favorite movie:  The Shawshank Redemption

How I ended up in the teen ministry: I was threatened! Just kidding. I believe at this point in my life, I am able to be relatable with those in high school, as well as being financially, emotionally, and spiritually flexible to the needs of teens. The real reason is that it gives me an excuse to play video games all day, play sports, eat a lot of junk food, and act like a big kid.

STEPHANIE:
AGE:
24, 8 years spiritually

EDUCATION: Masters in Teaching, UW in June 2006!

OCCUPATION:  Teaching Kindergarten/First Grade in the Bellevue School District

AREA OF TEEN WORK: Eastside Region (10-11th graders, Bothell to Covington)

WHY DID YOU WANT TO BE A TEEN WORKER? I chose to serve in the teen ministry because of the impact such teen workers had on my life as a teen. I was baptized as a sophomore in high school because of the way God worked through the mentors in my life.

FAVORITE MOVIE: Beauty & the Beast

Why serve in the teens: 1 John 3:16 "...we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers." I enjoy putting aside my own desires to serve the teens of my brothers and sisters in Christ. We are all called to serve and sacrifice and for me the teen ministry is where God placed me, and I love it!

Favorite Movie:  Henry V (1989 directed by Kenneth Branagh)

Favorite Quote - "We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; For he to-day that sheds his blood with me Shall be my brother" Henry V Saint Crispins Day Speech

Area of Teen Work you lead: Eastside teen girls Bible talk with Stephanie

Why you choose to serve God and his church in the teen work: Derrick and I saw a need in the teen ministry on the Eastside and realized that God had a plan for us to be there. Highschool is a complicated time in life and when I look back at those four years of my life, I think about how much I needed God. In 2008, our teens need God more than anything in their lives because this world is a mess and it is pulling on them from every angle. I feel that I can relate to these teens because I am not that far in age and we probably still share the same interests as far as music, movies, sports, and clothes go. :) My heart is to help mentor these young ladies emotionally, socially, and spiritually. It is a fun mission field to be in and I have learned a lot about myself and about God's mercy on me.

Occupation: Currently getting Masters in Architecture at UW

Area:  Teen Worker for Eastside Men

Why do you choose to serve the teens? I chose to serve the teens because I believe it is important for young people to hear the truth about God and our sin. Teens are at such a crucial time of defining who they will become and I want to be there for them as one who cares deeply for them. Plus, teens have the most fun and why would you not want to hang out with them as much as you can?
